Coconut Chutney

Ingredients

• Fresh coconut – 1 cup (desiccated)
• Chana dal – 2 Tablespoons (roasted)
• Green chilli – 1
• Ginger – 1/2 teaspoon (grated)
• Salt – as per taste
• Sugar – 1/2 teaspoon
• Tamarind – 1 teaspoon

Tempering
• Urad dal – 1 teaspoon
• Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
• Cumin seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
• Curry leaves – 10
• Dry red chillies – 2
• Oil – 1 Tablespoon

Directions

1) Grind the desiccated coconut with roasted chana dal, green chilli, ginger, salt, sugar and tamarind. Set it aside in a serving bowl.

2) For tempering, heat oil and add mustard seeds and urad dal. Once the urad dal turns golden brown add the cumin seeds, curry leaves and red chillies.

3) Once the curry leaves are fried and the red chillies change color, switch off the flame and pour this over the chutney.

4) Serve with idlis, dosas or uttapams.
